Mardi Himal Trek is a recently opened trekking trail that has gained lots of attention lately. It has now been taken as the best alternative for Ghorepani Poonhill trek. Unlike Poonhill, Mardi Himal traverses through a quaint and lush trail of off beaten nature. If you want to avoid crowds and want to enjoy the sheer glory of nature with majestic views of mountains in the Annapurna region, Mardi Himal is the best suit for you! The trek has been able to earn lots of compliments from fellow travelers in a short span of time. Hats off to the stunning views of Annapurna massif and neighboring peaks that can be perceived from Mardi Himal!

This used to be a lesser-known route in the Annapurna region of Nepal. It was opened for trekkers only in 2012. Prior to that, the trail was used only by few self-supported travel groups. However, the fascination of Mardi Himal couldn’t be hidden from the rest of the world till long. As people started traveling to this location, the charm for this place started increasing day by day. As a result, Mardi Himal Trek is now one of the popular trekking trails in the Annapurna region of Nepal. The trail to Mardi Himal runs along a ridge that lies just east to the popular Annapurna Sanctuary. From the top of the ridge, one can witness some astounding views of mountains in Annapurna panorama. The close-up views of Annapurna Himal, Macchapucchre Himal, and Mt. Dhaulagiri are simply amazing. Compared to other treks in the Annapurna region, the trail to Mardi Himal is short, easy and less crowded. However, it is nothing less than other treks in terms of mountain views and natural glory.

How to get there to Mardi Himal Base Camp?

Like other journeys to Nepal, you will join us in the capital city of Kathmandu. After a day of sightseeing tour in Kathmandu, you have the option of either driving or flying to Pokhara. If you reach Pokhara a bit early, you can explore the vibrancy of the Pokhara city and lakeside area for a while. Mardi Himal Trek starts after a short drive from Pokhara to Phedi. From Phedi, we walk uphill along the foothills of Annapurna to Pothana. Pothana is a popular village in the region that is known for the best views of mountains in Annapurna Panorama. From Pothana, we traverse through the dense forests of rhododendron, birch, hemlock and oak to Forest Camp. On the way, we can catch some glimpses of mountains amidst the gaps of alpine trees.

Leaving Forest camp, we climb uphill towards the top of the ridge. As we ascend up, we can notice a drastic change in vegetation. The lush dense trees start to disappear and we come across the path with short bushes. At rest camp, we can get the first view of Mt. Macchapucchhre. Further, we march forward to low camp, high camp and then to Mardi Himal Base Camp. As we open up to the Mardi Himal Base Camp, we will be rewarded with some outstanding close-up views of Annapurna Himal, Macchapucchre Himal, Nilgiri Himal and other peaks in the Annapurna range.
